FOLLOWING Warrington Litter Volunteers being honoured with the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, litter pickers Bill Cooke and Tony Dixon attended Buckingham Palace for the Royal Garden Party.
Bill said, “We represented the indomitable Warrington litter pickers at the Royal Garden Party. We had no idea there was such a large garden behind Buckingham Palace, it even has a lake” .
Tony added: “There were 8,000 guests, military bands, tea and cakes, uniforms (swords not permitted), and lovely frocks with large hats. We can confirm there was absolutely no litter in the palace gardens.”
King Charles, Queen Camilla, the Princess Royal (Anne) and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh (Edward and Sophie) were present and processed through different parts of the crowd.
“We were fortunate to see King Charles at very close quarters. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience”.
Bill added, “And back in Warrington, we’ve picked over 5000 bags of litter this year!”
