POLICE are appealing for witnesses and video footage following a serious collision on the M56 near Stretton, Warrington, yesterday, Monday, which closed the Eastbound carriageway.
Shortly after 5 pm on Monday, 18 May, police were called to reports of an incident near Stretton.
On arrival, officers found there had been a collision between an HGV and four cars: a blue BMW 325I, a grey Toyota Yaris, a dark blue Ford Focus, and a black Tesla.
The driver of the BMW, a 43-year-old local woman, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Salford Hospital.
A front-seat passenger from the BMW also suffered serious injuries. The 52-year-old local man was airlifted to the Royal Salford Hospital.
Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, and they are both currently in a stable condition.
Following the collision, the eastbound carriageway of the M56 was closed between junction 10, Stretton, and junction 9, M6 Interchange, while investigation work was undertaken at the scene.
The road reopened at around 12.30 am on Tuesday, 19 May.
