The M56 in Cheshire was closed Eastbound following a serious collision near Warrington on Monday evening.
Shortly after 5 pm on Monday, 18 May, officers were called to reports of an incident on the M56 near Stretton.
On arrival, officers found there had been a collision between an HGV and two cars. One person has sustained serious injuries, and they have been airlifted to hospital.
The incident involved three vehicles, including a lorry and firefighters and paramedics assisted five casualties at the scene.As a result of the collision, the M56 was closed Eastbound between junction 10, Stretton, and junction 9, M6 Interchange, while police investigation work took place at the scene.
The closure is expected to remain in place for several hours.

UPDATE: 8:45 pm Traffic caught within the closure has now been released. Delays of 45 mins and 4 miles of congestion. UPDATE: 11.30 pm The motorway has now reopened and there are no residual delays.
