Poppy Appeal team raised £11,500 – despite Covid

THE Lymm Poppy Appeal team raised more than £11,500 for this year’s appeal – despite the local and national restrictions necessary because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Team members could not go into supermarkets to collect and it was not possible to hold a concert to launch the appeal. They were not able to cover as many outlets as usual.
But they set out to acehieve the best results possible for the Royal British Legion to continue their work supporting forces veterans and their families.
Neville Davies built a Covid safe kiosk which was used at Lymm Dam, the Lymm truck stop and a farmer’s market at Abbey Leys Farm.
Because of a ban on street and face-to-face collections, the team were not able to be in the villager centre on the day before Remembrance Sunday. But they had 96 collecting tins out at 46 outlets and received huge support from schools, local shops, pubs and restaurants.
Special thanks were due to High Legh Garden Centre where more than £1,000 was raised and to Poppy Day veteran Albert Priestner and his family who were able to raise more than £1,000 through his online giving page.
The team are now hoping things will be back to normal for next year’s Poppy Day so they can resume their many fund-raising activities.
