WARRINGTON-based Rock Steady Boxing is holding a special open evening to highlight that Parkinson’s Disease does not just impact older people.
Approximately 1,750 people under the age of 50 in the UK are estimated to have a definite diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease. However, the actual number of people living with Parkinson’s in this age group may be higher, as diagnosis can be delayed in younger individuals according to Parkinson’s UK.
It’s estimated that around 10-20% of all people with Parkinson’s experience symptoms before the age of 50, which is referred to as young-onset Parkinson’s
Rock Steady Boxing Coach Tommy O’Connor said, “Parkinson’s Disease has no boundaries and can affect any gender and any age group.
“The younger age at which you are diagnosed gives you the greater the opportunity to address the symptoms and minimise the effects this disease has on your future well-being.
“Rock Steady Boxing is an accredited program specifically designed to address Parkinson’s Disease symptoms. It is hard-hitting and physically demanding giving you the opportunity to continue living an active inclusive lifestyle.”
