WARRINGTON South MP Sarah Hall has urged the government to provide a clear and accountable timetable for the development of the National Care Service.
She warned that delays and ambiguity risk undermining trust in the reform process.
The NCS is a flagship Labour commitment to deliver fairer, more consistent, and higher-quality social care across England. It aims to end the postcode lottery in care provision, improve working conditions for care staff, and ensure people are treated with dignity and compassion wherever they live.
In a recent parliamentary question to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Ms. Hall asked what steps are being taken to establish the service, and what the timeline is for consulting stakeholders and implementing reforms. In response, the government confirmed the creation of an independent commission on adult social care, tasked with building a national consensus for a system that is productive, preventative, and empowering for those who use and deliver care.
The Government has said it is already laying the foundations for the National Care Service through new legislation for a Fair Pay Agreement in the care sector, a national career structure, and minimum standards for care technologies. The Government noted that further details will be published in due course.
She said:”I’m proud to support this Labour government’s bold commitment to a National Care Service, one of the most important reforms in a generation. For far too long, social care has been a postcode lottery, with overstretched staff and families left to navigate a system that simply isn’t working.
“The creation of an independent commission is a welcome and serious step forward. But we need to make sure that this isn’t just a conversation in Westminster and that the voices of carers, families and care recipients in places like Warrington must be heard loud and clear.
“We owe it to our care workforce and to everyone who relies on care to be ambitious, transparent and urgent in delivering change. I’ll keep pushing for clear timelines, strong engagement, and real delivery, so that this vision becomes reality for people here in Warrington and across the country.”
