Staff and residents at Cheshire Grange care home in Lymm have been gripped by the excitement of their home team being in this year’s Rugby League Challenge Cup Final.
The entire home is decked out in Wire colours from top to bottom, and the passion is truly infectious ahead of Saturday’s big game at Wembley.
In the midst of the buildup, residents were delighted by a surprise visit from Warrington’s very own Wolfie!!! There was a surprise for Wolfie too as he was introduced to two residents who had special links with the Wire.
Olive, whose father-in-law was none other than Alf Boardman – a Wire legend who made history as the first Warrington player to reach 400 appearances. Alf played in the club’s very first four Challenge Cup finals, earned an England cap in 1905, and lifted the cup twice. A Hall of Famer, a trailblazer, and a forward who gave his all for the Wire.
And Graham Welborn, former Mayor of Warrington and lifelong Wire fan, who shared memories, stories, and some true Wire pride with Wolfie and the team.
It was a day full of heritage, heart, and history as well as beaming smiles form both residents and staff.
General Manager of the home, Dawn Holsgrove – Smith said: “The town’s passion for our home team is certainly reflected in our home, it was so joyous seeing our residents and staff in their rugby shirts and the feeling it gave of being part of something much bigger, it was a very emotional afternoon and we must thank Wolfie for giving his time so generously at such a busy time for him.
