MAYOR of Warrington Cllr. Mo Hussain was on hand to show support and solidarity to evacuees of the devastating Marsh House Lane flats fire last night.

Following the flat fire on Marsh House Lane, the Mayor, together with local councillor Sagheer Zaman, visited the nearby Territorial Army barracks to show support and solidarity with those affected.

The Mayor personally spoke to many of the evacuees to offer reassurance and ensure they were receiving the help they needed. Thanks to swift action by emergency services, all evacuees have now been safely relocated to local hotels. Spirits remain high, and everyone spoken to expressed deep gratitude simply to be alive. One evacuee described the experience as “a miracle,” with many praising the incredible efforts of Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service in preventing any serious injuries.

Cllr Hussain praised all agencies involved in the response, saying:“What happened yesterday was frightening, but it has shown the very best of Warrington – from our heroic emergency services to the dedicated council officers and volunteers. Everyone has worked together tirelessly to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those affected.”

Special thanks were extended to Cheshire Police for their support throughout the incident, as well as senior officers from Warrington Borough Council and Your Housing for working around the clock to look after displaced residents.
The Mayor also paid tribute to Lieutenant Colonel Kenny Nixon of the Royal Engineers, who opened up the barracks directly opposite the fire on Marsh House Lane to provide a safe and warm space for evacuees while they awaited alternative accommodation. Lt. Col. Nixon not only ensured people were comfortable but stayed on-site as long as needed, arranging pizzas and drinks for everyone present.
“Lieutenant Nixon has been absolutely amazing,” said the Mayor. “His kindness, compassion, and leadership brought real comfort to those who had just gone through a terrifying experience.”
The Mayor closed by thanking all those involved and reaffirming the town’s commitment to supporting residents affected by the fire on Marsh House Lane.
“We will continue to stand with you in the days and weeks ahead. Warrington is a strong, caring town, and we’ll get through this together,” he added.
