Have a say on vibrant, fair and safe street trading

RESIDENTS, traders, shops, and businesses are being invited to have their say on a policy aimed at fostering a vibrant, fair, and safe street trading environment across Warrington.

The borough council’s revised street trading policy aims to support an environment that not only complements existing local shops and business premises but also provides diverse consumer choices and enhances the character and safety of Warrington. It is also sensitive to the needs of residents and landowners.

First introduced in 2011, the original policy primarily addressed food vans operating from licensed pitches and ice cream vans. However, the street trading landscape has evolved since then, with a notable increase in the variety and number of mobile traders, including snack and coffee vans, operating throughout borough.
The updated policy and its accompanying conditions better reflect this changing environment, aiming to ensure fair and equitable conditions for all street traders.
The council’s cabinet member for licensing, Cllr John Kerr-Brown (pictured above), said: “We are committed to creating a thriving and balanced trading environment in Warrington, which provides the best possible experience for local people and visitors. This revised street trading policy will help us achieve this, addressing the evolving nature of mobile trading while ensuring fairness for all businesses.
“It’s important we hear from as many people as possible on this policy, so we can take on board local views and deliver a policy that benefits everyone. We encourage residents, traders, shops, and businesses to review the proposed changes and provide their valuable feedback during the consultation period.”

The consultation runs until Friday July 25.
