MAJOR plans for a phased re-development of the former Fiddler’s Ferry Power Station site with four general industrial, storage or distribution units come before Warrington planning chiefs next week.
The scheme, submitted by Peel NRE, also includes ancillary offices, service yards, parking, landscaping and infrastructure, with access from Widnes Road, Cuerdley.
Officers are recommending the scheme be approved, subject to a number of conditions covering tree protection, landscaping, ecology, highways, environmental protection, contaminated land remediation, etc.
The Fiddler’s Ferry site is the largest brownfield site in the borough.
Development within the site must be designed to mitigate the impact of climate change and be as energy efficient as possible.
Planning permission for Fiddler’s Ferry was granted in 1963, after a lengthy battle by local protesters.
The power station closed and ceased power generation in March 2020.
Demolition has been partially carried out, with the four northern cooling towers demolished in December 2023.
The borough council’s development management committee will consider the latest proposals next Thursday (May 22).
No date has yet been confirmed for the demolition of the remaining towers at the site acquired by Peel.
