VIDEO: DRONE footage has captured the aftermath of the demolition of the four North cooling towers at Fiddler’s Ferry Power station on Sunday.

Filmed by Man & Drone UK, the video captures the wasteland left following the demolition of the towers, which came tumbling down in a matter of seconds, changing Warrington’s skyline.

The remaining Fiddler’s Ferry towers are scheduled for demolition next year as land owners Peel continue to work on reclaiming the land for a future mixed development of housing and business use.

Thousands of people turned out on Sunday, to watch the towers being demolished, but were left disappointed as fog obscured the view.

But thanks to drone technology the dramatic images of the demolition were captured by drone footage – see below.

Local resident Grace Taylor was on hand to press the demolition button, after winning a raffle organised by local charity Warrington Disability Partnership, which raised a total of £14,600.

The demolition gave mixed emotions for many of those watching, with the towers always being a “sign of home.”

The Fiddler’s Ferry Power Station has dominated the Warrington skyline for more than half a century.

The redevelopment of Fiddler’s Ferry is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver significant new jobs and homes on one of the largest brownfield sites in the region.
Peel NRE’s purchase of the Fiddler’s Ferry site from SSE is the first step towards transforming the disused former power station into a sustainable development, offering new jobs and high quality family homes for local people.
