A local Cllr. has appealed for urgent help after strong winds toppled the Christmas tree at St Oswald’s Church, Winwick.

Local Cllr. Stuart Mann has called out for volunteers this morning saying: “Our Beautiful Christmas Tree has fallen due to the strong winds.

“If anyone at all is free for a couple of hours right now please come to St Oswald’s Church Winwick, Warrington to come help us make safe and dismantle so we can put it all back up again when the weather allows.”
The tree lights were only switched on last weekend.

The latest Met Office weather report for Warrington and the North West is:

Today:
A very windy day with widespread gales and severe gales in coastal regions. Damaging winds are possible, with disruption likely in places. Rain at times, perhaps wintry over hills. Cold. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Tonight:
Staying very windy overnight with gale force northwesterly winds, these only slowly abating by the morning. Showery rain at first though turning drier later. Cold but remaining largely frost-free. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Sunday:
Less stormy than on Saturday but still a windy day with gales possible in places at first. Occasional sunny spells but often rather cloudy with a chance of showers. Cold. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:
A rather cold and settled spell of weather early next week. Often cloudy but some sunshine at times. An increasing chance of overnight frost and fog where skies are clear.

Storm Darragh will be moving away from the UK through Sunday but will continue to leave a legacy of strong north to northeasterly winds across much of England and Wales.
