HUNDREDS of people came out for the big switch on of the Christmas Tree outside St Oswald’s Church Winwick at the weekend.

Families and friends were entertained by Winwick CE School choir and Rt Reverend Martin Cox flipped the switch to light up the tree for the festive period.

Organised every year by the Light up Winwick volunteer group, families and friends all joined in the carol singing and then everyone was invited over to Winwick Leisure Centre for some mulled wine, mince pies and a special visit by Father Christmas.
Entertainment at the centre was provided by the Chapeleles Ukulele band.

Crowds around the Christmas tree

This joint event with Winwick Parish council brings joy to people of all ages and the location of the tree at the top of Myddleton lane means it shines brightly for everyone to see from now until January.
The switch on marks the start of a number of Christmas events over the festive period in the village including the very first Christmas Tree Festival which opens tommorrow, Thursday 5th at the church and runs all weekend AND the BIG Christmas quiz at the leisure centre this Saturday 7th December.

All details of upcoming events at the church and in the village can be found on St Oswald’s Church and Winwick & Hermitage Green Facebook pages.
Christmas toppers have also gone on post boxes throughout the village.
