WARRINGTON sporting legend Fred Barlow has been posthumously inducted into the Deaf Sports Personality of the Year Awards Hall of Fame during a special event in Glasgow.
Fred Barlow was the Chairman of Warrington & District Society for Deaf People for over 50 years before he passed away in October 2021.
Deaf Sports Personality of the Year Awards contacted his daughter, Mavis McCue, to invite her to accept a Hall of Fame inductee award on behalf of her Father for his contribution to snooker and billiards.
As well as being a snooker/billiards legend in Warrington, Fred also played bowls and chess for England where he travelled to many places across Europe including Norway.
In 2004, Warrington Deaf Centre renamed the snooker room after Fred, now named “The Barlow Room”.
To this day, Deaf snooker players still continue to play in the “Fred Barlow Snooker Cup”. Fred and his brother Alan remain famous within the Deaf community for the work they did, and their legacy remains strong throughout the Deaf community.
