FIREFIGHTERS in breathing apparatus were involved for five hours tackling a combine harvester blaze in a remote field near Walton, Warrington.

At 11:50 on Sunday, fire engines from Warrington, Runcorn, Penketh and Lymm, were caled out to a field off Holly Hedge Lane to a fire involving a combine harvester. Because of the location of the incident four fire engines were needed for water relaying.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus used four hose reel jets to tackle the blaze in the machinery and to stop fire spreading across the field.
Once the fire was out the crews continued to dampen down the affected area and the combine harvester was thoroughly stripped and checked for hotspots.

The Service was at the scene for five hours.
