DRIVERS are being warned to plan ahead as a large number of roads across Warrington will be closed for the annual Running Festival this Sunday (September 20).
The temporary closures will be in place from 5.30 am until 2 pm, affecting roads across the town centre, Stockton Heath, Wilderspool, Grappenhall and surrounding areas.
The restrictions have been introduced by Warrington Borough Council to allow the running festival to take place safely.
A number of roads will be completely closed to traffic, while others will have restrictions on particular sections or directions.
ROADS CLOSED IN FULL
The following roads will be closed along their entire lengths between 5.30 am and 2 pm:

* Bridge Foot
* Bridge Street
* Broad Lane
* Cairo Street
* Cantilever Bridge
* Cantilever Northwest Approach
* Cantilever Southeast Approach
* Cantilever Southwest Approach
* Chester Road
* Egypt Street
* Friars Gate
* Grappenhall Road
* Hallaway
* Hunts Lane
* Mersey Street
* New Lane
* Palmyra Square North
* Palmyra Square South
* Rylands Street
* St Austins Lane
* Springfield Street
* Stockton Lane
* Suez Street
* Warrington Old Bridge
* Warrington New Bridge
* Wash Lane
* Winmarleigh Street
PARTIAL ROAD CLOSURES
Restrictions will also apply to sections of the following roads:
Academy Street– between Academy Way and Mersey Street.
Academy Way – between Bridge Street and Moulders Lane.
Church Lane – between Chester Road and Broad Lane.
Grappenhall Lane – between New Lane and Barleycastle Lane.
Knutsford Road – westbound between Hallaway and Wilderspool Causeway.
Knutsford Road – westbound between Grange Avenue and Hallaway.
Knutsford Road – eastbound between Wilderspool Causeway and Grange Avenue.
Lumb Brook Road – between Grappenhall Road and New Lane.
Loushers Lane – between Wash Lane and Pearson Avenue.
Museum Street – between Bold Street and Winmarleigh Street.
Sankey Street – between Crosfield Street and Bold Street.
Station Road – between Knutsford Road and Grammar School Road.
Wilderspool Causeway – between Park Boulevard and Knutsford Road.
Wilson Patten Street – between Slutchers Lane and Bridge Foot.
Witherwin Avenue– between Lumb Brook Road and Astor Drive.
ACCESS WILL BE CONTROLLED
Warrington Borough Council says the restrictions will come into effect on **Sunday, September 20, as and when the signs are put in place**.
Access to affected areas will be under the control of the event organiser for the duration of the event.
An official alternative route has been identified for traffic, taking drivers via:
London Road – Walton Road – Chester Road – Slutchers Lane – Wilson Patten Street – Parker Street – Liverpool Road – Sankey Way – Priestley Street – Froghall Lane – Midland Way – Manchester Road – Kingsway North – Kingsway South – Knutsford Road – Cliff Lane – and vice versa.
With the closures beginning as early as 5.30 am, motorists are being urged to check their route before setting off and allow extra time for journeys on Sunday morning.
The restrictions are scheduled to remain in place until 2 pm.
