TWO bus diversions for evening services will come into force from Monday (Oct 30) as work continues on road works to improve cycle safety at the junction of Lovely Lane and Bewsey Road, Warrington.

The work is Warrington’s first CYCLOPS junction to improve highway safety for cyclists at a cost of nearly £930,000.

Diversions on Service 16 Evening Journeys (1900 to 2300) on Monday, 30th October to Wednesday, 1st November 2023
From 1900 until 2300 the crossroads at Lovely Lane and Bewsey Road will be closed to traffic due to resurfacing.
As a result of it will not be possible to operate via Lovely Lane to/from Dallam.

Two diversions will be in place during the closure.
Journeys departing Warrington Interchange at 1907, 2007, 2107 & 2207 will NOT operate via Sankey Street or Lovely Lane, but go via Winwick Street, Winwick Road, Kerfoot Street and Folley Lane to Longshaw Street and then on to Dallam. Journeys departing Dallam at 1919, 2019, 2119 & 2219 will operate to the Interchange via the same diversion.

Journeys departing Warrington Interchange at 1937, 2037, 2137 & 2237 will operate as per the normal route via Sankey Street and Lovely Lane but will have to terminate at the Hospital and will NOT operate through to Dallam. Buses will layover at the bus shelter just inside the Hospital grounds and depart back to Warrington at 1954, 2054, 2154 & 2254 These journeys will then operate through the hospital grounds via Guardian Street then on to Priestley Street and the Pink Eye roundabout and then as normal into Warrington Interchange. Passengers wishing to travel from Lovely Lane to Warrington will have to board on the outbound stops on Lovely Lane or at the Hospital.

The works are taking place because highway planners say the existing movement through the junction by cycle is ‘difficult and at times dangerous’, stating that a CYCLOPS junction has been identified as the ‘most appropriate’ solution.
The ongoing works have caused significant traffic disruption in and around the area.

Road closure notice extended by three weeks on town’s first CYCLOPS junction

  1. I’m looking forward to using this junction to safely cycle between Sankey Valley Park and the town centre. A very wise investment by Warrington Borough Council.
