WARRINGTON Wolves slumped to a 23-14 defeat to Castleford on Friday night.
It was another former Wire half-back Gareth Widdop, who came back to haunt them, kicking 11 points for the hosts, including a drop goal when the scores were tied at 14-all.
Missing half-backs Josh Drinkwater and George Williams, Warrington had to fight back from 14-0 down.
An early yellow card for James Harrison saw them fall six points behind early on and tries for Will Tate and Jason Qareqare had the Tigers in front.
But a brace of Matty Ashton tries and a Connor Wrench score dragged the Wolves level, though Peter Mata’utia could only add one conversion.
Widdop made it 15-14 with six minutes left and he would later convert Jack Broadbent’s try and add a late penalty goal for only Castleford’s fourth win of the season.
For Warrington Wolves it was a fourth defeat in five games, following up from the disappointing defeat at 12 man Wigan in the Challenge Cup.
