Bold plan for new restaurant at former KFC premises

PLANNING chiefs have given the green light to a bold plan to convert a derelict shop near Warrington town centre into a new restaurant and takeaway.

The proposals involve the former Kentucky Fried Chicken shop at the corner of Winwick Street and Haydock Street which was also latterly a hairdressing salon.
Above the restaurant will be a house-in-multiple-occupation with eight units across two floors

Warrington Borough Council planners decided the scheme could go ahead after hearing that the building has a leaking roof, is infected with dry rot and is becoming unstable.
A full refurbishment will take place with new UPVC windows, back to brick strip internally while externally it will be re-rendered to bring back some “classic character” to the building.
The roof will be altered to gain unhindered access to the second floor.

External changes would be minimal and would be in keeping with the existing street scene.
The property is at the northern end of the Winwick Street Conservation Area which is considered to be an area of possible archaeological importance.
However, officers believe the change of use of the building from shop to restaurant will not have a damaging impact on the character of the area.
