Music Festival time is just around the corner!

AS we rapidly approach our first May Bank Holiday music lovers are frantically grabbing those tickets for the festivals that are announced and looming, and what a year it promises to be for Warrington!

In my day job I travel all over the North of the country and even as far as Aberdeen in Scotland and visit many towns the size of Warrington so naturally the first thing I do on such a visit is find out what’s on in the music world.

Sadly, on the odd occasion the answer is very little and in some towns the music venues are closing their doors as they surrender to the ‘big guns’ visiting with their huge pantechnicons and mobile stages in cities nearby. But ……… it’s certainly not all doom and gloom folks, many towns like ours are thriving as they fight back by staging many successful mini-festivals and the smaller bars and clubs are repurposed by ripping out their Karaoke stages in favour of a live music stage. Pop up gigs are now promoted by the bands themselves who utilize their own social media and cheaper ticket agents like Fatsoma, and are selling their own merchandise strictly within the venues to keep them going, it’s a changing world out there and the independents are back. I have said this before, Warrington is looking good and the fact is people like live music, mistakes on stage included!

Whatever the music genre, it’s all part of the entertainment and despite the cancellation of the Neighbourhood Weekender this year there are loads of gigs and mini-festivals in the town to keep you going. Just type ‘Whats on in Warrington‘ in your internet browser and you will find the larger events being promoted but keep an eye on your social media platforms – Facebook , TikTok and Instagram and you will literally find hundreds of music gigs ranging from fantastic tribute bands to Wazza Punk, Indie Pop/Rock, Metal, Rock and Blues to the other end of the musical spectrum in Classical and Folk where I am also seeing a resurgence of concerts being staged in the many village halls and churches across town where superb acoustics are the norm. Of course , let’s not forget the weekday events , the number of open mic nights seems to have doubled , if not trebled lately and the local musicians are encouraging us all to come out of our post – covid hideouts and have a go. It is very encouraging and I have been pleasantly surprised by what I have seen and it’s all supported by your local Radio Warrington . Tune in any night and one of the DJ volunteers will be mentioning a festival of some sort , be it Music , Food or Beer!

Obviously I don’t have the space to mention every event that’s being staged but I will be reporting on as many as possible and the message is a positive one for Warrington so please keep supporting live music folks, the musicians and venues really appreciate it , something tells me it will be a busy year again for Warrington Worldwide Magazine.
