Cheshire Grange makes residents’ day with outing

WHEN the opportunity arises, staff at the Cheshire Grange care home love to create ‘Sunshine Moments’ for their residents.

This is something that is very special to a resident based on their interests, hobbies or something that might have been a part of their everyday life. So when the care home learnt of a quilting show and exhibition, they knew exactly who would love a special trip out.
Staff had discovered that Jeanne, who has lived at Cheshire Grange for several months, was an avid quilter, having completed a City & Guilds Course, gaining a silver medal for a competition entry. Jeanne had completed several large quilts, which are stunning and she has one hung in her room at Cheshire Grange.

Jeanne was delighted when told about her planned trip and very excited when the day arrived. At the exhibition Jeanne took it all in her stride, admiring the work on display, commenting on the colours, textures and the amount of work in the amazing creations. Jeanne was asked if she thought she’d be able to create work like these and she thought for a moment and replied ‘Yes’, with the correct tuition, even you could do it’ One of the quilts on display feature boats and seafaring images, including The Owl & The Pussy Cat in their pea green boat, Jeanne treated staff to the full rendition of the nursery song.
Back at the care home, Jeanne recounted her adventures to other residents and staff and later in the day when her family visited.
Dawn Holsgrove Smith, General Manager at the home, said: “It really was a day filled with Sunshine for us. We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Cheshire Grange. It was so nice to see how happy Jeanne was – and the staff loved being a part of this as well.”
