IT was a similar story for Warrington Wolves as they surrendered a lead to lose 32-22 at Huddersfield Giants.
Three times Daryl Powell’s side held an eight point advantage, as they started on the front foot.
But a sin-bin for Joe Bullock with just under 20 minutes to go was followed by a period of intense Huddersfield pressure that proved too much.
New signing Matt Dufty went straight in at full back and he set up the first try for Jake Wardle, playing against his parent club, on five minutes.
The subsequent kick-off from Will Pryce then went out on the full thanks to good awareness by Greg Minikin, and from that field position, Stefan Ratchford converted the first of his three first half penalties.
Ratchford’s last tackle kicking was enabling Warrington to enjoy an element of control to the game in the first quarter.
But on the first real foray up the other end, Huddersfield managed to get on the board.
A scruffy last tackle kick from Theo Fages came back up for the Giants and it was shifted outside for Ashton Golding to score on 23 minutes.
Two Ratchford penalties restored an eight point lead at 12-4 and that would have been a lead Warrington deserved.
But with minutes to go before half time, they allowed Adam O’Brien to scoot over from dummy half and the lead was reduced to two at the break.
Huddersfield started the second half strongly, but it was Warrington that snared the first try – Matty Ashton grabbing an interception from Pryce to race home from half way.
There was mystery over Huddersfield’s second try, as a short kick to the corner popped up for Golding to put in Josh Jones from close range.
But Warrington went eight points in front for the third time, when off the back of an excellent Dufty run at the start of the set, they forced a repeat set and Ashton dived in at the corner for 22-14.
That proved to be their last score.
As Huddersfield applied pressure, Bullock was yellow carded for obstructing a kick chaser on the way through and that was the beginning of the end.
Warrington bravely defended their line for set after set until eventually on the last tackle of a fifth repeat set, Huddersfield went wide for Innes Senior to score.
Olly Russell added the touchline conversion off the inside of the post to reduce arrears to 22-20.
The Giants sensed the game was there to be won, and five minutes later, Pryce skipped through off two left foot steps to give them a lead they wouldn’t surrender.
Owen Trout made the game safe with a try with six minutes to go and all but end Warrington’s play-off hopes.
Following the final hooter, Warrington Wolves fans again took to social media to vent their frustrations.

This club has NEVER played outside of the top flight. Never, throughout it’s entire history……

Club is heading for relegation and nothing is changing. Absolute shambles and just about the lowest I have felt about the club in 30 years. Where did it all go wrong?

No heart commitment or bottle to get out of this from this shower ! To everyone who keeps saying “we won’t go down “ Wake up !! We can’t buy a win !! Relegation can happen !

We start to win. We enter the last 15 minutes. A mistake is made or a tackle missed. We concede. We capitulate. And then we do it again, the week after, and the week after. Our only hope now is that Wakefield and Toulouse stop improving.
