Going to see live music is one of life’s true pleasures, especially when it’s at a venue that is steeped in musical history. There’s just something magical about setting foot in a place where many musical icons have played to packed fanatical audiences, throughout time.

Here in Warrington, then, we’re lucky to have such a venue ourselves, with the brilliant Parr Hall. The concert hall, located on Palmyra Square, first opened its doors to the public way back in 1895.

For over 125 years the place has been entertaining the people of Warrington, and has hosted some mesmerising musical performances. It’s fascinating to look back and just recollect some of these magical moments. Were you lucky enough to have been in the crowd at any of these great Parr Hall gigs?

Live/Wire – 2017

The Australian band AC/DC are a group that always go heavy sonically, but their tribute band, Live/Wire, also know how to shatter many an ear-drum. Whilst AC/DC, unfortunately, haven’t taken a trip to Parr Hall, Live/Wire have rocked out the place on a few occasions. The most exceptional of these was in 2017, when they unleashed a wave of sound on a highly enthusiastic crowd. Rock N’ Roll classics, such as ‘She Shook Me All Night Long’, and ‘For Those About to Rock’, got the whole crowd frantically headbanging along.

AC/DC have had a huge impact, not just on the world of music, but in many different forms of culture, so it’s terrific having such a competent tribute band available. AC/DC have soundtracked massive Marvel movies, had their songs blasted out at sporting events, and have even inspired several online slot machines. These online slots are popular all over the world, and can even be found at the best South African online casinos for 2022. These online casinos are gathered together in one easy to use site, which also offer the user detailed casino reviews, payment method information, and tantalising bonus offers. The Stone Roses – 2012

The seminal indie band, The Stone Roses, hold a special place in many a heart here in Warrington. With their lead singer, Ian Brown, being born in the town, it’s a band whose success resonates with a lot of local people. It’s exhilarating seeing one of your own strutting their stuff on stage, and Ian Brown is also definitely a performer who enjoys getting the adoration from the crowd. Although the band aren’t currently together, Brown continues to release solo stuff, which is always accompanied by engrossing videos. One of his more recent efforts, for the track ‘From Chaos to Harmony’, had an interesting concept, which was where Warrington’s favourite musician predicts your future.

It was only fitting then, that when the band decided to reform back in 2012, the first gig they played in sixteen years was at Parr Hall. The show was, as you can imagine, immensely popular. Not only with people from Warrington, but also from all over the country. Masses of excited Roses’ fans swarmed upon the town to try and capture a ticket to this special event, and the gig was sold-out within hours of announcement. The noise as the band entered the stage was almost deafening, and as the opening chords of ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ floated out across the heaving crowd, it was a truly seismic moment.

The Rolling Stones – 1963

The Rolling Stones are one of the most celebrated bands in music history, and Parr Hall was fortunate to have been graced by the boys from London incredibly early in their journey to create an epic musical legacy. In fact, when they rocked up to Warrington in 1963, they’d only released two singles, but that didn’t stop it from being a sold-out crowd. This might’ve been due to the fact that they’d appeared on the TV show, Ready, Steady, Go!, just three days before the gig.

Interestingly, when sat backstage, the band first heard the giant breaking news of the American president John F. Kennedy’s assassination. They then included this mammoth event in the lyrics to their 1968 smash-hit ‘Sympathy for the Devil’, fully cementing this moment in the band’s lore.
