Walton Lea launches Miles and Smiles Appeal

WARRINGTON based charity Walton Lea is launching a “Miles and Smiles” fundraising appeal at The Red Lion in Moore on Sunday 27th February in a bid to raise £25k to buy a new van.

The campaign will launch with the Big Quiz night starting at 7pm hosted by volunteer Ian McCormack. Up to 4 players per team are asked to make a donation of £10 to play with all proceeds going to Walton Lea.

The team at the Red Lion has opened its doors to the charity free of charge and will be providing complimentary refreshments on the evening.

The campaign is launching to help replace the existing van, which is 15 years old and has been painted and patched up, but now experts are saying it is becoming unsafe and will not pass its MOT. Although the charity receives some council funding, it is heavily reliant on donations and fundraising efforts.

The charity which provides supported work placements for 74 vulnerable adults and young people with learning difficulties, needs new wheels to carry out essential work picking up donated and completed goods that have been sold, transporting bicycles to new homes as well as keeping the work and workers moving between the centres of Walton Lea and Walton Hall Estate.

Donna Sleet who coordinates the Charity’s Fundraising efforts explains, “The aim is to inspire the community to come together and enjoy the quiz and help us raise £25k for a new van. Every penny will make a huge difference and allow us to continue essential work across our eight key learning areas that provide training and development for our learners.”

The General Manager from The Red Lion says, ‘’We are really happy to support the team at Walton Lea to launch their fundraising appeal and hope that our regulars, the local community and supporters of Walton Lea will all come along to support and enjoy the evening.”
