Six mile tailback on M6 following collision between HGV and car

A collision between a car and a lorry on the M6 created a six-mile tailback adding over two hours to journey times on Wednesday afternoon.

A large HGV vehicle careered through a barrier and into the grass verge following the collision northbound between junctions 18 and 19.

The collision happened shortly after 2pm on Wednesday afternoon, December 1 with further congestion beyond junction 18 on the opposite side due to onlookers.

The crash occurred between J18 A54 Middlewich Road (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel) and J19 A556 (Knutsford).

North West Highways reported traffic queues of six miles with delays of up to two hours.

The northbound carriageway was completely closed.
