WARRINGTON Wolves set up a Challenge Cup quarter-final date with Catalans Dragons after an uninspiring 32-8 victory over Swinton Lions.
The Championship side led midway through the first half and proved harder work than envisaged for a relatively full-strength Warrington side, only really missing Gareth Widdop, Michael Cooper and Greg Inglis from its strongest 13.
Toby King had got Warrington on the board first before Luis Roberts’ try and two Martyn Ridyard goals had Swinton 8-4 up and they were frustrating the visitors.
Tom Lineham’s try on the half hour mark levelled the game up and a second for King and Blake Austin meant Warrington had breathing space at half time, leading 20-8.
There were no further scores until the 27th minute of the second half, when Matty Ashton scored against his former club, but his afternoon was ended shortly after he was helped off the field injured.
Danny Walker added a further score for the Wolves, who will now face Catalans in a repeat of the 2018 final in the last eight.
The quarter-final ties will take place in two double-headers on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 May.
