Vandals blamed for fire in children’s play area

VANDALS are being blamed for a fire in a children’s play area in Manchester Road, Warrington, which has been targeted for a third consecutive night.

A fire engine from Warrington was sent to the scene at St Elphin’s Park and the crew used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
It was thought the fire had been started deliberately by local hooligans.
Local Cllr Jean Flaherty posted on social media saying: “For the 3rd consecutive night someone saw a need to cause destruction and damage in our park. This behaviour is unacceptable, if your teenagers are out and about at night make sure you know where they are!
“Also a reminder to all to put bins away, stolen, burned bins will not be replaced without a charge being made to the householder.
“Very sad to have to post this news, the park is the heart of our community and the majority of us love it and care for it. Don’t let a badly behaved minority ruin what has been built by our dedicated Volunteers, Councillors and WBC Parks & Woodlands Team.”
