WARRINGTON venues are banding together to host a month packed full of musical events.
May has been dubbed the town’s Music Month and aims to showcase the vibrant local music scene and offer music lovers an unforgettable experience.
Launched by Warrington Business Improvement District (BID, Music Month will be a collaborative effort from venues across the town to showcase talented performers from across the North West and fill the gap left by the cancellation of the Neighbourhood Weekender in Victoria Park.
From intimate acoustic sets to electrifying performances, Warrington’s Music Month promises something for every music enthusiast. Warrington will also host its first Concert Series as part of the month’s planned activities.
Amy Dawber, Warrington Business Improvement District (BID) manager, said: “We are thrilled to announce Warrington’s Music Month which is really going to showcase the creativity of our local music community.
“This initiative not only highlights the incredible talent within our town but also provides an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to come together and enjoy a diverse range of musical experiences. It will be a great opportunity for businesses in the town to get involved and we are looking forward to seeing a variety of events to suit everyone, no matter your taste in music.”
Throughout May, participating venues will host a range of events, featuring both established acts and emerging artists across various genres. From rock to jazz, indie to electronic, people can expect an eclectic lineup that reflects the town’s music scene.
One of the highlights will be the much anticipated return of Warrington Music Festival on Saturday, May 25. Once again, the popular event’s focus will be on championing and providing a platform for the region’s grassroots talent.
Kicking off at midday and free to attend, this year’s festival has also been expanded to accommodate two stages at both Golden Square and Time Square with more information coming soon.
Meanwhile, Golden Square will welcome the return of Indie Disco, which will feature three world renowned tribute bands mixed in with some fun and tunes courtesy of DJ and broadcaster Clint Boon while over at Time Square, Proms in the Square will offer an inclusive event with a twist showcasing The Untold Orchestra and special guests. The event will be seven hours of live performances from brilliant musicians from across the region.
Warrington Market will host activities across the entire month, including musical activities, the Non Stop Music Quiz and performers at the town’s Young Traders Market.
Over at Parr Hall, three music legends spanning multiple genres will be taking to Warrington’s historic stage in May.
British folk icons Steeleye Span will be marking an incredible 55 years together on Monday, May 6, then just days later R&B giant Alexander O’Neal will be bringing his poignant farewell tour to the venue on Thursday, May 9.
Later in the month, The Drifters – known for timeless hits like Stand By Me and Under the Boardwalk – are also bringing their spectacular show, honed over many decades, to Parr Hall on Friday, May 24.
Over at neighbouring Pyramid Arts Centre, May will see the venue’s Basement Bar open its doors for an intimate gig on Saturday, May 18, with the ambient and experimental sounds of Warrington’s Fältsånger.
Amy added: “This is a town full of musical talent, and Warrington’s Music Month is a fantastic way to celebrate that. We’re excited for the venues to throw open their doors and showcase the incredible bands and singers that our town has to offer.”
Warrington’s Music Month starts on May 1 and will run throughout the month at venues across the town.
