A reminder from the Town Hall – there’s no Walking Day tomorrow!

WARRINGTON Borough Council has issued a reminder that the town’s annual Walking Day will not take place tomorrow (Friday) – just in case anyone was planning to turn up.
It is the first time the event has been called off since World War 2.
The council, after discussions with senior church representatives, announced the postponement until next year back in March when it became clear the COVID-19 pandemic meant it could not go ahead safely.
Council Leader, Cllr Russ Bowden, said: “A huge amount of planning and organising goes into Walking Day, and this takes a great deal of officer time and resource. With the current crisis we are all facing, we had no other choice other than to postpone the event until 2021.”
In fact, the latest information from the Met Office, suggests that it will be raining continuously in Warrington from 8am onwards so the thousands of walkers and spectators who would have taken part in the Walk might escape a soaking – although the weather has never dampened the spirt of the occasion.
