THE Salvation Army has taken delivery of a new minibus to support the services it offers in Warrington.
The minibus, will support the church and charitable organisation in continuing to provide a range of activities to the Warrington community and replaces an old bus which had come to the end of its useful life.
It will mainly be used to transport people to the church and community centres, day care centre, located on Academy Street, which takes place four days each week; Tuesday – Friday from 10:00am – 3:00pm.
The Day Care Centre is a social care initiative by The Salvation Army Warrington that supports the elderly members of the community, many of whom are experiencing loneliness and helps enable them to stay in their own homes rather than move into residential care. The mini bus will pick up members of the town’s community and bring them to the Day Care Centre and take them home again. Other groups from The Salvation Army Warrington will also use the minibus for community activities.
Captain Vaughan Bovan, leader of the Warrington Church and Community Centre said: “For many, visiting the Day Centre is the only activity they take part in each week and without us providing transport to get to and from the church and centre, many simply wouldn’t be able to get here. We have some spare spaces at the Day Centre and this new replacement minibus will enable us to bring new members. We feel this is part of our Christian vision of service to our community.
“We want to send our heart filled thanks to Warnerbus in Dunstable for building the minibus to meet our needs, and also to the ASDA Foundation and its colleagues at the Cockhedge Shopping Centre in assisting us to apply for and secure a significant grant towards the cost of the minibus.”
