Health chiefs’ message: Look after yourself and your family

LOOK after yourself and your family – that’s the focus of Warrington’s annual public health report.
Residents are being encouraged to take steps to ensure they, their families and friends live healthily and age well.
The report 2019 emphasises how people can keep well, and how partners are working together to deliver the Health and Wellbeing Strategy for Warrington.
It includes a calendar of campaigns and initiatives to be used as a toolkit to support residents – and it highlights the importance of people taking up the offer of NHS health checks and screenings, knowing what support is available for residents with mental health issues and suggesting ways for people to keep themselves and their family safe in the hot and cold months of the year.
The report also features a series of “count me in” pledges to encourage residents to stay healthy. These pledges include getting children getting active as part of the Change4Life scheme, finding new ways to stay active like “Couch to 5k”, and finding out how to prevent type 2 diabetes.
The borough council’s cabinet member for housing, public health and wellbeing, Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, said: “Our annual report offers practical guidance and advice on how residents and communities can stay healthier and active, for longer.
“A healthy society starts at home and we all have a responsibility to look after our own health and, where possible, the health of others around us. This report provides a guide for good living throughout the year, which we know is crucial for residents, neighbours and communities to help live healthy, independent, fulfilling lives.”
