Entries are now open for the popular 2019 Lymm Runners Beginners/Return to Running Course which starts on Tuesday January 8 and lasts 8 weeks. The course is open to runners and would-be runners of all abilities.

Lymm runners are now regarded as one of the friendliest and most supportive running clubs in the region so participants can expect plenty of encouragement as well as structured coaching by qualified leaders in separate training groups – no one gets left behind.

On Tuesdays, there is a structured coaching session at the running track which we then put into practice with group walk/runs and runs around Lymm on a Thursday evening, building up pace and distance over the weeks.

Helen Marsh, one of the beginners in the class of 2018, told her story: “I signed up for Lymm Runners Beginners Course primarily for fitness reasons. As a mother of two children with a full-time job, I found it difficult to stick to inflexible gym timetables and I thought running would be a good alternative as it can be done anywhere or any time.

“But I knew I wouldn’t have the confidence or willpower to persevere with running on my own. Finally, I hoped it would be a good place to meet new people as, not being from Lymm, I didn’t know many people.

“I was really nervous when I turned up for the first session but Kate and Chris (the Coaches) were absolutely fantastic, both supportive and encouraging and they made the sessions fun. I enjoyed the way they pushed us a little bit more each week – yet with everything being broken down to make it more achievable.

“Since then I have gone on to do several 5K Park Runs and a number of races including the Forest ladies 5K Manchester 10K and the Sandstone 10 Mile Trail Race in September.

“For 2019 I have booked myself on the Wrexham Half in February. Never in  a million years would I have thought I could do a Half Marathon and I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this without the LR’s Beginners Course easing me in, the team making me believe that I can and  the fantastic support from the rest of Lymm Runners. What’s more, I’ve also met some really great friends.’
