Youth theatre group’s vision of a post-Brexit UK

AN award-winning youth theatre is visiting Warrington with a new hard-hitting production about racial tensions in a post-Brexit UK.
The group 20 Stories High has announced its third national tour of “Black”, a true story-inspired play performed by some of the region’s most talented young actors.
With live DJ soundscapes from Manchester music guru Chunky and the raw talent of actress Abby Melia, this is a vital and challenging piece of theatre.
Black tells the story of Nikki, a young woman who is confronted by her own racial prejudices when a Zimbabwean family move in over the road.
When she begins to form a friendship with new arrival Precious, tensions on the estate begin to rise and Nikki’s relationship with her dad is put to the test.
With Brexit on the horizon, immigration an ever-contentious political issue and a rise in racist attacks, Black tackles head-on some of the most difficult questions facing Britain today.
Award-winning playwright Keith Saha said: “I wanted to shine a light on some of the stories we don’t get to hear.
“Through our work with young people, we hear that this is happening in places all over the country with increasing frequency, and yet it feels like it hardly gets talked about by the mainstream media.”
Black is being performed at Pyramid Arts Centre on Saturday September 29 at 2pm as part of Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival, which is run by arts charity Culture Warrington with the support of Arts Council England and Warrington Borough Council.
