Green Party hit out over provision for the homeless

GREEN Party activists in Warrington have stepped into the ongoing row over provision for the homeless in the borough.
Warrington and Halton Green Party say Warrington Borough Council will be withdrawing funding from homeless charity Room at the Inn after a decision to renew a contract with the Salvation Army at James Lee House for emergency beds for the homeless.
Branch deputy leader Lyndsay McAteer says the Green Party is disappointed in the council’s current approach at a time when homelessness is increasing at a significant rate.
Emergency provision should be made at both sites, she said.
“We would like to see emergency provision across both sites. Ideally, support should be increased. Room at the Inn provide holistic support to people during the day as well as providing emergency beds.
“Warrington Borough Council needw to conduct a needs assessment to work out how the town can best support people who are homeless or sleeping rough.
“In the meantime, as a bare minimum, they should guarantee funding to Room at the Inn. Both James Lee House and Room at the Inn are complementary services.”
