Heritage centre group seek trustee and treasurer

LYMM Heritage centre is on the lookout for two volunteers who can help out as a Finance trustee and treasurer.

Alan Williams, Chair of Lymm Heritage group said : “Ask anyone in Lymm why they enjoy living here, (and it seems almost everyone does) and they may mention the setting, the walks, the restaurants but almost certainly near the top of the list will be “the sense of community”.

“That may be partly the legacy of when Lymm was a much smaller village and it may also be due to our compact centre but there is no doubt that one very important part of it is the huge range of activities and events that bring the whole village to life on a regular basis from Duck Race at Easter to Dickensian at Christmas and everything in between.

“At the heart of all these activities are the volunteers who give their time freely to “make stuff happen” for the wider benefit of the community, while hopefully having fun doing it.”

Alan says Lymm is now on the cusp of having an “exciting new feature” that promises to contribute hugely to the vibrancy of the village all year round – The Heritage Centre. The group behind this vision have come a long way in just over a year to the point where they have premises (the former royal British Legion), starter funds and most importantly an active working group with a wide range of skills. Their first event – Brazilymm 66 was a fantastic way to “kick-off” the venture attracting national attention and visitors from far and wide.

But there is still a gap that needs filling to make the picture complete. The group’s treasurer is having to stand down due to pressure of full-time employment and as a result the group are looking for possibly two people to fill this very important role.

Firstly there is a need for a Finance Trustee, – some-one who will take an active interest in the financial strategy and sustainability of the Centre and who will also get involved in funding applications. In addition the group needs a treasurer to take day to day responsibility for the organisation’s finances including banking and book-keeping.

“These are vital roles,” explained Alan “and our experience so far suggests they are always the hardest to fill due to the need for the right mix of experience and skills. But we feel sure that there must be some-one out there – perhaps a recently retired accountant or some-one with treasury experience in another group who could step in and find themselves a part of a great team that is determined to make a real difference for Lymm .. for our local schools, for residents , for traders and for visitors.”

If it could be you or if you think you know of some-one who may be interested give Alan a call on 01925-754080 or email [email protected] and help maintain the great Lymm reputation for community.
