Online survey on dog fouling

9

AN online survey is being carried out to find out the extent of dog fouling in Warrington – and to look at ways to help tackle the problem.
Warrington Borough Council say the action of a few selfish dog owners spoil the town’s streets, creates a health hazard – and diverts funds from other important services.
Peter Astley, assistant director regulation and public protection, said: “We would like to hear from residents about how important the dog fouling issue is for them and how frequently they come across it.
“We know that a lot of people are concerned about dog fouling and we have recently received a number of complaints specifically about fouling on playing fields and around schools.
“Most dog owners act responsibly pick up after their dogs and dispose of the poo bags correctly. Unfortunately a selfish few think it’s okay not to clean up after their pet. The cleaning up not only diverts council funds from other valuable services, it spoils our streets and is a health hazard.
“We’re considering innovative ways of tackling the issue, so please help us by completing this short online survey and share the link with your Warrington based family, friends and neighbours.”
The council already asks residents for help to identify irresponsible dog owners who don’t pick up after their pets by reporting details on their website, www.warrington.gov.uk, or by ringing the Contact Centre on 01925 443322.
Environmental crime enforcement officers appreciate that it is often difficult to witness actual fouling, however they need as much information as possible about the people not “bagging and binning”.
A name and/or address, a description of the person and/or the
dog, the time of day that they walk their dog, the route they take. Officers would use this information from residents to tackle thoughtless dog walkers.
Responses to the survey will be confidential and the survey process complies with the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998.

It can be found at https://www.warrington.gov.uk/info/201103/consultations/2219/dog_fouling_consultation
Published results do not include individual details or data, only combined information / overall results (apart from written comments, where given, which always remain anonymous).

  1. Yes dog fouling seems to be on the increase again and I’m sick of seeing it around where I live and all because some people are TOO DAMN LAZY to take a bag, bend over and pick it up. It’s not like it’s difficult !! I wonder if they like it when they stand in dog poop or their kids get it on them when they play out?

Where do we find the survey and/or link please a it doesn’t say in the news story, thanks 😀

  2. Can’t find the survey,

One problem I regularly see is people who pick up and bag dog mess but just leave the bags anywhere and everywhere.

The lack of bins does not help but is not an excuse Also since cutbacks the bins do not get emptied regularly.

  3. Just done the survey. Think the wording is a bit odd on some of the questions – who should be required to report dog fouling for example… Members of the public – required? Police? Surely that would be who you reported to? Council? Well, maybe. Then who should pay? Individuals? Councils? just felt the survey was poorly worded and is probably done to support something already decided on……

  4. local action group on

need action on this now.– this is a disgusting legacy of a small number of pie in the sky owers any cost should be incurred by the fowlers -dysons-

  5. local awareness group on

yes it is foulers just getting a bit excited that we may be getting some awareness of the problem caused by so
few irresponsible owners —–could not find survey also am i getting cynical to think this was intentional

PLEASE DO SOME THINK ABOUT THIS problem
