£25,000 boost for Warrington Disability Partnership

WARRINGTON Disability Partnership’s 25th anniversary has received a major boost with a £25,000 donation from principal sponsor St George’s Healthcare while ambitious plans to help people living with disabilities in Egypt and Sudan have also been unveiled.

WDP are teaming up with a Middle East charity set up by St George’s healthcare, St Mark Universal Copts Care to send refurbished wheelchairs and mobility equipment over to Egypt, where tens of thousands of disabled people live in poverty, with little or no support.

WDP CEO Dave Thompson said: “This donation from our principle sponsor will make a huge difference. We couldn’t put on evnts like Disability Awareness Day without this kind of support which will help get buy in from other organisations.

“It will really make a huge difference and we greatly appreciate the support from Dr Naser Fouad and the team at St George’s Health Care.

“We are also greatly excited by the opportunities working with their charity St Mark Universal Copts Care, helping people with disabilities in Egypt and Sudan.

“We have a workshop carrying out repairs on wheelchairs, scooters and mobility aids – items that we can’t refurbish and sell here, we’ll get shipped over to Egypt and Sudan.”

Dr Fouad and members of his team visited WDP’s HQ on Beaufort Street, to see first hand the working taking place heloing transform the live sof people living and working with disabilities.

They met former soldier Tom Coleridge, who was injured in Afghanistan and now works at WDP as an information officer and his colleagues, direct payments adviser Sam Calderbank and clerical officer John Balshaw, who all talked about how WDP had transformed their lives.

It is hoped that the new charity partnership will be up and running in time for Disability Awareness Day which takes place on Sunday, July 10.
