Flood victims can apply for cash support

VICTIMS of flooding in Warrington caused by the recent storms can apply to the borough council for financial support.
Residents and businesses affected may be eligible for help under the government’s communities and businesses recovery scheme.
A number of properties were flooded in the borough, including some at Orford, Thelwall, Lymm and Croft
Anybody whose home was flooded may be eligible for a one-off payment of £500 to help with recovery costs such as temporary accommodation. In addition, any householders forced to move out of their property because of flooding will be entitled to a 100 per cent council tax discount for up to three months.Russ Bowden
Any businesses forced to stop trading due to flood water in their premises could also be entitled to a 100 per cent rates discount for up to three months.
Cllr Russ Bowden (pictured), the council’s lead member for corporate finance, said:
“All agencies worked extremely hard between Christmas and New Year to protect Warrington from the worst of the weather, but it was a distressing time for many residents and businesses, and anybody who has suffered should get in touch with the council.”
