Inside Kamen’s new gym

A WARRINGTON man who took up Thai boxing at the age of seven and later spent five years in Thailand from the age of 16 has opened his own gym in his home town.
Kamen Picken has fought in all the major stadiums in Thailand and all over the world, including Australia, Hong Kong, Macau, China and Cambodia.
He has fought some of the best fighters in the world – and also competed for two world titles.
Now he wants to help Warrington youngsters – and “oldsters” too – at his Demon Gym on Capesthorne Road, Orford.
Kamen has transformed a former borough council depot, which had stood empty for some time, into a fully equipped gymnasium, renovating the whole of the interior to include  a 16-foot professional Thai boxing ring, Cage Wall, seven boxing bags and Olympic weights rooms.
Already the gym is attracting people of all ages and families.  The youngest student is just four – and the oldest 72.
Members can pick up skills in Thai Boxing, MMA, Jiu Jitsu, Boxing and Olympic Weights – and the gym also caters for people with special needs.
Kamen said: “I want to have a gym where anyone can come, no matter what level – beginners to professional fighters all under one roof with good training.”
