Children to “take over” museum for a day

YOUNG people will be given the chance to play their part running Warrington Museum and Art Gallery on Friday November 20, as they take over the building for the day as part of a national event.
“Takeover Day 2015” will see pupils from Latchford St James Primary School take on crucial tasks to help run the museum, including leading guided tours, selecting objects and writing labels for displays and safely packing away important artefacts.
Lucky youngsters will also be given the chance to step into the shoes of museum staff including the collections officer, education officer and visitor services officer.
Supported by the charity Kids in Museums, Takeover Day is an annual event where museums, archives, galleries, historic sites and arts organisations are taken over by children who are given meaningful, powerful and decision-making roles. More than 5000 children throughout England will take part in this year’s event.
Derek Dick, exhibition and services manager of Culture Warrington, said: “We are extremely excited to be part of Takeover Day 2015. The day will let local children be right at the heart of what we do.
“We hope that Takeover Day will inspire families to make arts and heritage a regular part of family life”
