COUNCIL staff and volunteers who helped 100 Warrington families save a total of more than £4,100 over Christmas have been thanked by a senior councillor.
Cllr Kate Hannon (pictured), lead member for leisure, community and culture has heaped praise on members of the council’s central neighbourhood 
team who held a toy fair early in December.
Support came from the police, the Older People’s Forum and a local supermarket who donated toys, gifts and money so that families could choose gifts for their children.
There was also plenty of information about local services available and members of the smoking cessation, health inequalities and wellbeing teams were all on hand to give advice and support.
Later, food hampers were delivered to the families – donated by the central team and local community groups.
Cllr Hannon said: “This was a great idea by the neighbourhood team and not only was the Christmas spirit in full flow but this has really helped families in the local area.
“I want to thank everyone for organising this event which has saved each family £41 and with over 100 families that is a saving of over £4,100.
“As so many toys and food items were donated, the cost of this event was minimal compared to the impact it had for the local residents.”
