Bent speaks up for hard working families

WARRINGTON South’s Labour parliamentary candidate Nick Bent spoke up for hard-working families in the town on the main stage at Labour Party Conference in Brighton.
The theme of the conference was ‘tackling the cost of living crisis’, which affects thousands of working people in Warrington who struggle to make ends meet. Nick welcomed new policies from Ed Miliband on wages, on childcare and on apprenticeships that will make life easier for Warrington families and give fresh opportunities to the next generation, if Labour wins the next General Election.
In his speech to a packed hall, Nick set out the reasons who many families are struggling under the Tory Government, saying: “Unemployment in Warrington is higher now than before the Tories came to power. And families are on average £1,500 a year worse off under Cameron and Osborne. David Cameron has been Prime Minister for 39 long months and for 38 of those, prices have gone up more than wages.”
Nick added: “The cost of living crisis is a daily reality for many Warrington families. It’s only the Labour Party under Ed Miliband who have championed the interests of the squeezed middle. People in Warrington deserve better than a Tory Government whose top priority is the privileged few at the top.
“Warrington people are industrious and ambitious and want to get on in life, but they won’t be able to get on until we get the Tories out and get a Labour Government in again.”
Nick also put on record his appreciation for the Warrington churches and other volunteers who support the local Foodbank, which has given out over 5,000 meals to local people already.
He added: “It is shameful that foodbanks are needed in Britain in the 21st Century and there wasn’t a foodbank in Warrington before the Tories came to power, but I’m glad it’s there and I pay tribute to the generous people who support it.”
He added:“People who are working hard and doing their best for their own families also care about their neighbours who are having a very tough time. That great British sense of fair play is alive and well in Warrington.”

  1. There may not have been a food bank in Warrington when Brown was PM – but there were plenty in other parts of the country, so don’t pretend it was a workers’ paradise under you lot, Mr Bent.

  2. Funny how politicians of all colours are always speaking up for “hard working families”.

If Nick Bent is relying on hard working families he will probably lose his deposit
