AFTER 30 years of fund-raising a new HQ for Scouts and Guides in Lymm is finally on its way.
Following successful grant applications with WREN, Veolia Environmental Services, Lymm Round Table and Lymm Parish Council, and the awarding of Planning permission, work is expected to start this autumn to replace the existing District Guide Hut (Maple Lodge) and the 3rd Lymm Scouts HQ, for use in early 2014.
The new two hall building, to be called ‘Maple Lodge’, will provide facilities to the current Rainbows, Beavers, Brownies, Cubs, Guides, Scouts and Explorers, as well as other community groups and users.
The project is being led by the current Community of Guides and Scouts ( CoGS) team, who would like to thank and pay tribute to all who have helped to get us to this point.
3rd Lymm Group Scout Leader, James Hurrell, said “Its great news, not just for the Scouts and Guides, but also the wider community.
“We are already hearing from groups expressing an interest in using the building and I am sure we will hear from many more. The future is looking great.”
As part of the final funding, a Buy-a-brick campaign has been launched, giving individuals or groups the chance to contribute and get their name recorded for posterity in the foundations of the building for future generations to find. Companies are also being offered the chance to sponsor a leaf on a Maple Tree which will greet all users as they enter the building.
