New highways contract awarded

WARRINGTON and Halton Borough Councils have joined forces to award contractor Lafarge Tarmac all highways works in the boroughs for the next six years.
The work carried out by Lafarge Tarmac for Warrington and Halton will include a range of activities from filling in potholes to major resurfacing schemes, winter gritting, traffic and pedestrian safety schemes and highway improvement schemes including junction improvements and road widening.
Cllr Linda Dirir, Warrington Borough Council’s executive board member for transportation, engineering and climate change said: “Lafarge Tarmac submitted a highly rated bid which we are confident will allow both authorities to achieve their objective of providing a high quality, value for money service which focuses on delivering continuous improvement in important areas. We look forward to working successfully with the company to achieve these aims.”
The contract will start work in Halton on Saturday 1 June and works in Warrington will be phased until April 2014.
