Rural crime to be tackled

A PLAN to tackle crime in rural areas of Cheshire and Warrington has been launched by the county’s Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer.
He said: “Cheshire is a beautiful county much of which boasts a landscape of rolling fields and woodland but we must not forget those people who live and work in those areas of natural beauty when it comes to policing.
“Crime can have a devastating impact on the community in which it happens.”
Before finalising his Police and Crime Plan, Mr Dwyer met with rural groups including the National Farmers Union, Countryside Alliance and Country Land and Business Association.
He said: “They made it clear that crime in a rural area can bring the community to a halt, especially where this is committed against a rural business. The rural community often feel vulnerable due to their remote location and the criminality that affects them.”
Plans include recruiting Special Constables linked to small villages to play a key role in the battle against rural crime.
Mr Dwyer said: “I will also ensure that the constabulary tackles wildlife crime and works effectively with the national Wildlife Crime Unit. By including these issues in my plan, I will be holding the Chief Constable to account for ensuring that rural crime gets tackled.”

  1. Seems that the police are going to be busy. Do they have the capacity to do the above as well as what they are doing now? Something will have to be left out.
