Inspiration wanted – from tree people

VOLUNTEERS who can share their knowledge of trees and woodlands are being sought by the Woodlands Trust to act as Creation Champions.
The trust has almost 1,500 volunteers in a variety of roles including admin, speakers, fundraisers and media volunteers.
As it is tree-planting season the trust is focusing on the work of its Woodland Creation Champions. Their role is to share their knowledge of trees and woodlands to inspire those interested in planting trees and creating woodland.
Cheshire champion is Mike Anders, who is keen to assist landowners in the creation of new native woodland sites on their land. He has worked for years in the arboriculture sector and has a lot of community tree planting experience.
John Tucker, director of Woodland Creation at the trust, said the champions “build a rapport with contacts and visit scheduled woodland creation sites to complete a checklist and assist with planting design and choice of species.”
He said: “Champions also visit previously planted woodland creation sites in order to support the site owner with the management of their new woodland, providing an ongoing link to the trust, as well as monitoring the site’s progress and evaluating the trust’s contribution to inform the development of future projects.”
Anyone who would like to consider being a Creation Champion should contact the trust on 0845 293 5692.
