New community hub set to open

A NEW community hub opens in Warrington on Saturday and local residents are invited to have a look around.
St Werburgh’s Community Hub, Boswell Avenue, will be open from 12noon to 4pm. Visitors will be able to see the facilities available and chat to the team about what activities they would like there.
The hub offers rooms for community groups to hire, and the chance to work with the team and Stronger Together South neighbourhood team on local projects.
The Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Steve Wright, will officially open the venue and there will be a hotpot lunch and refreshments.
Cllr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture, said: “The hub is a fantastic addition to the area and it’s great to see it being put in the hands of the residents. It’s a good opportunity for people of all ages to get involved with community projects.”
The inaugural meeting and election of committee members for St Werburgh’s Community Hub Group will be held on Monday November 26 November at 4pm and everyone is invited to attend.

  1. All for it as I live very close by, but why has no-one thought to let residents in the area know in a form other than online? This is the first info i have seen about an event happening this coming Saturday, and you can bet that 75% of local residents won’t be looking at this.

Information should have been circulated in good time if they want people to attend, unless of course they are being selective about who they want to be involved?

  2. Because the council as usual, only use the internet and ignore the majority of people.

Why has this word hub suddenly become the buzzword? A Community centre sounds far better. The problem here, is that for years the council have ignored the Latchford East area and allowed the groups that were thriving to fade away. As a volunteer in the area for many years, I will not be attending the opening nor anything else. The council have always had their own agenda, as have the councillors.

  3. Residents have been kept informed about the new hub via the local newsletter ‘Latchford West Connected’, which has carried a contact number for those wishing to get involved. Once a date for the opening had been agreed, a press release went out and posters were distributed across the ward. In addition, my Councillor newsletter has led on this issue, with an invitation to all residents to come along to the opening. This has been distributed by myself and volunteers to households across the ward.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Kind regards,

    Maureen McLaughlin

    Labour Councillor for Latchford West
