Barn conversion under scrutiny

0

A FARMER’S plan to convert a barn into two dwellings at Warrington is to come under close scrutiny.
Members of the borough council’s planning committee are to visit Birch Tree Farm, in Red Lane, Appleton before considering farmer John Bryan’s proposals.
Appleton Parish Council has lodged objections on the grounds the scheme would set a precedent for other agricultural buildings in the area.
They argue that the development would be contrary to adopted policy and harmful to the Green Belt.
A nearby resident has also objected and questioned whether two residential properties would have been allowed at the time the barn was given permission in 1984.
Planning officers are recommending the conversion be allowed as the buildings are no longer needed for agricultural purposes and would not be suitable for other business uses.
