A BUSINESSMAN who sold counterfeit iPhone and other branded mobile accessories through three retail outlets in Warrington town centre has been ordered to perform 120 hours community service.
Kameron Akram, of Bristow Close, Great Sankey was also ordered to pay £1,500 costs by Warrington Magistrates.
Akram pleaded not guilty to selling and possessing counterfeit goods but was convicted by the magistrates.
The court was told that after a joint investigation with police, trading standards enforcement officers seized a large quantity of mobile phone covers and accessories from the three outlets, valued at approximately £5,000.
Cllr David Keane, Warrington Borough Council’s executive member for environment and public protection, said: “We treat these issues very seriously and will take action against businesses that sell counterfeit goods.
“The sale of counterfeit goods can have a damaging impact on the livelihoods of honest local traders and the people employed by them and also can pose a risk to the health and safety of the unsuspecting public who purchase these fakes.”
