THE government’s recently announced package of rail infrastructure projects across England and Wales is good news for Warrington, according to MP David Mowat.
Completion of the “Northern Hub” cluster of rail enhancements, involving more than £300m of outstanding track and capacity upgrades in the Manchester area, will include increased capacity across central Manchester, improvement on the Chat Moss route between Liverpool and Manchester and extra capacity around Manchester Airport and Rochdale.
The Warrington South MP said: “This is fantastic news for Warrington and the North West. For passengers, the completion of the Northern Hub will mean faster trains running between our great Northern cities and more frequent services between Manchester and Liverpool.
“The Government is investing to rebalance the UK economy after years of over-reliance on the South East and it’s the people and businesses in Warrington that will benefit”.

Why is David Mowett MP under the impression that this will be good for Warrington. I still think this will be bad as it will mean all half of the express trains which now serve warrington central and the two great cities of the north west will not run. So there will be fewer fast commuter trains to link Warrington with Manchester and Liverpool. This has to be bad not only for commutors but also business in the town as fast trians between Liverpool and Manchester will bring fewer people here to Warrington.
I think this is clearly David Mowat playing national politics rather than considering what is good for the people of Warrington. What we need is better and cheaper trains, rather than worse and more expensive. How he can claim otherwise is ludicrous and can only be explained by him sucking up to his party leadership.
